You can also freeze any leftover beans for later if required. The dried beans do have to be soaked before you can cook them. Once cooked, you can add them into soups, stews, cassaroles, salads, blended them into dips or ground them to make falafels.
How To Cook Dried Chickpeas:
- They will need to be soaked for 12 hours or overnight. For 1 cup of dried chickpeas, add 4 cups of water for soaking.
- Drain & rinse, removing any discoloured, cracked or broken ones.
- Place soaked peas into a saucepan and cover with fresh water.
- Bring to the boil before reducing heat and simmer for 45min to 1 hour or until tender.
As with many legumes, avoid adding any salt to the cooking process, as this can create a tough texture.
