Description
Black beans are rich, creamy and full of flavour. Their “meaty” texture & high protein content makes them a favourite staple to vegetarian & vegan diets.
You can add them into soups, stews and chilis, blend them to create dips, mash them to make burger patties or simply add them on top of a salad.
You do not need to soak the beans before cooking them, but it will reduce the cooking time of them.
How To Cook Black Beans:
- Wash and sort beans, removing any cracked/broken ones & any debris.
- Soak the beans in a large pot for 4-12 hours or overnight. Cover the beans with about 5cm of water. Add a couple of tablespoons per kilo.
- Rinse and drain the beans before adding to a cookpot. Cover with fresh water by about 5cm. Season with any herbs & salt that you like.
- Turn heat to low, stirring occasionally for 45-60 minutes or until tender. For unsoaked beans, add another 10-15 minutes of cooking time.
Dried black beans are a product of Canada.
