Mixed spice, sometimes called pudding spice, is a powdered blend of spices frequently used in British cooking.
The warm flavorings in this blend are a part of many traditional British recipes (particularly Christmas desserts) as well as cakes, pies, and baked goods.
Description
Mixed spice blend generally includes a mix of ground spices like; cinnamon, coriander, caraway, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, allspice & mace.
While mixed spice includes allspice, you cannot substitute the single spice for the mixture.
With its warm, somewhat sweet, spicy flavor so is often used in baking, sprinkled on fruit, or mixed with other sweet ingredients.
Mixed spice is not just used for sweet cakes, though, try a sprinkle or two in a casserole dish.
You can also try adding mixed spice to a stuffing or as a seasoning for poultry.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight. Use within 4months to retain the best flavour.
