Du puy lentils (French lentils) are a variety of green lentils. They differ from your standard green lentils by being slightly darker in colour & smaller in size.
Organic Du Puy (French) Lentils – Bulk
$0.98 – $9.80
Description
Du puy lentils have a bit of a nutty and peppery taste, with a slight mineral-like, earthy flavor.
They hold their shape extremely well, and are ideal for use in salads, soups and stews when you don’t want lentils to go a “mushy” texture.
This heartier texture comes with a longer cooking time, often about 40 minutes or more.
How to cook Du Puy lentils:
- Rinse lentils under water to remove any dirt and debris before cooking.
- Use a ratio of about 3 cups of water per 1 cup of dry lentils. You can cook in salted water, plain water or broth to add flavour.
- Bring a pot to the simmer and cook for 20-25 minutes or until tender.
- Drain and add further seasoning if desired.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight.
